The dust has settled following the second thrilling SSFL fixture which, as predicted was a fairly even contest between SCL and ISS. Both SCL and ISS came away from the encounter with 2 league wins with SCL getting the better of ISS in the friendly match that kicked off the event.
SCL took this match with a final score of 3 - 2. This match was a highly competitive and played at a frantic pace. In the end the SCL girls determination and organisation brought them the win in what was a very enjoyable game. This win places SCL second in the league behind ISS on goal difference, however they do have a game in hand over the league leaders.
Tensions were high before this match. ISS had an impressive first game against OIS so their confidence was high, however they were aware that SLC had some highly skilled and equally determined players. After an initial deadlock, ISS eventually took control and the final score was 7 - 1. The ISS U-11 boys have proven that they are strong contenders in this division, however nobody should underestimate the SCL team who have some very talented players and will surely come back even stronger in their next fixture. This win means that ISS keep their position at the top of the league. Second place goes to SCL who have even points and even GD with OIS, they edge them to position 2 due to having scored more goals.
In the U-14s girls division SCL met a very determined and well trained ISS side. The girls of ISS took control early and never let off the pressure. Once the first goal went in for ISS their confidence rose further and they kept on scoring!. In the end the final score was 10 - 1 to ISS. This is a large score line and the girls at ISS deserve their applause, however the SCL girls should take confidence in the fact that they never gave up and were able to get a goal of their own. The SCL girls showed great potential and have a good platform to build upon for their next fixture where as the ISS confidence level will be sky high for their next fixture. This result means that ISS remain top of the league with 6 points. OIS and SCL both have 0 points with OIS claiming second place on goal difference.
In the final game of the fixture an intelligent SCL side scored a dominant 5 - 0 win over the ISS team. Unfortunately for ISS, SCL capitalised on their slow start with a quick goal at the start. After this initial goal, SCL maintained control with crisp passing, vision and good skill when 1 on 1 with defenders. ISS did manage to show their strength at times during the match and their shot count was high, unfortunately most were off target and after an ISS own goal SCL re-took control to finish the game 5 - 0. Credit should be given to both sides who played this game in great spirit and demonstrated great sportsmanship throughout. This victory puts SCL ahead of OIS in 1st place on goal difference. ISS sit at third and will desperately need to gain some points in their next fixture against PYD.
Overall School Competition
With two victories, 19 goals scored and 10 conceded. ISS cemented their position at the top of the whole school league table:
Two victories over ISS place SCL in second place above OIS in third.
Have ISS done enough to keep first place whilst they await their next fixture? They do not play again until February 2nd and will be anxiously keeping track of future fixtures and their position. Before ISS play again, PYD and OIS will play three games and SCL will play 2. The league will surely change a lot by then. Who do you think will be top?
